Taliban, USA

Some 30 years ago, a leader in a position of authority over Mormon missionaries in northern California established a policy requiring all female missionaries to cut their hair painfully short. Why? So they wouldn’t be “a temptation” to the male missionaries.

Yeah, but that was 30 years ago. Surely today’s
Mormon Church knows better than to blame men’s unseemly thoughts and actions on women’s appearance. Or maybe not. In a post dated March 2014 (a neat trick, considering that as of this writing it is February 28, 2014), Mormon General Authority Tad R. Callister writes, “The dress of a woman has a powerful impact upon the minds and passions of men. If it is too low or too high or too tight, it may prompt improper thoughts, even in the mind of a young man who is striving to be pure.”

There you have it. When males have dirty thoughts or act out sexually, it’s not their fault. It’s because some female dressed as she oughtn’t to have.

To enjoy a laugh—or experience horror—at the Mormon Church’s obsession with things sexual,
click here and read all of Callister’s post. Even the title, “The Lord’s Standard of Morality” is revealing. For most people, morality refers to treating one another with fairness and dignity. In Mormondom, morality refers almost exclusively to what one does with one’s privates.

You might also be interested in this article by Salt Lake Tribune reporter Peggy Fletcher Stack, which reveals that Mormon leaders male and female push such nonsense on girls as young as four.

Growing large in numbers, as Mormonism has done, doesn’t mean outgrowing cultish control.
