Mormon Church will allow women to offer
We’re pleased that the Mormon Church lifted its ban on prayers offered by women in its conferences. We’re pleased it began letting women offer prayers in sacrament meetings as of 1978. These events and others like it (such as bestowing priesthood upon African Americans, also in 1978), albeit well overdue, are steps in the right direction. For a positive report, read this article from The Salt Lake Tribune. For a delightfully humorous take, read this piece by Tribune columnist Robert Kirby. For a more in-depth historical (and not terribly flattering) report read this article by Steve Benson, who writes and cartoons for The Arizona Republic and whose grandfather was late Mormon Church President Ezra Taft Benson.
