We love it when readers write

Steve here. Joanne just received this delightful note from Susan. I just want to say that I fully agree!
Loved your book. I was curious about polygamy but gave up the fantasy that is religion long ago, so I wouldn't have bought it for that reason. Liked the amount of detail—not drawn out, but enough to get the picture.

Then I went to your painting website. Good golly, you're really good! And seeing your picture, I can't imaging how anyone could deny your physical beauty. What the heck were people thinking???? And your inner beauty really shows in your story. Thanks for telling us about your experiences.—Susan

“I read this on a trans-Atlantic flight and was laughing out loud several times ...”

Thank you, readers, for posting reviews.  They help more than you know. Here are the newest. Please keep them coming! (If you prefer to read them on Amazon.com, click here.)
★★★★★   LOL Funny, a little bittersweet at the end
I read this on a trans-Atlantic flight and was laughing out loud several times at the absurd, nearly unbelievable situations described. A fast, fun read and worth the time.—Martin F

★★★★☆   Strange but interesting
This was written by an apparently intelligent woman. It is amazing how “out there” people can be when they are searching for something.—Lester R

★★★★☆   Funny!
The author has a great sense of humor, given the brainwashing she went through, and the eventual exit she made. It’s amazing what folk will believe when they're afraid to question. I’d recommend this for the humor alone, but it is a pretty well-written book that gives some insight to a fairly secretive group.—Seachelle

Great rapture cartoon in the New Yorker

Ever wonder how an angel must feel
on the morning of a rapture?

The New Yorker has a cartoon about the rapture that we love. Due to copyright considerations, we won’t reproduce it here but, this link will open it in a separate window on the Condé Nast site. Or, click on the image at right.

Mormon women and pants: why it matters

It’s Just About the Pants My Ass

Some Mormon women are rebelling against not being permitted to wear pants to church.

Reactions among the faithful range from “so wear pants, already,” to accusations of apostasy, insubordination, and blasphemy, to claims of a non-issue by pointing out that nowhere is the practice of women wearing pants to church officially verboten. This last obfuscates. There is within the church a persistent meme that amounts to the same thing.

Those not familiar with the faith might be tempted to say, “If you want to wear pants and your faith won’t let you, find one that will.” It’s not that simple. Mormons are taught that theirs is “the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth,” and that all other churches individually and collectively constitute the great and abominable church of the devil. These teachings rather rob other religions of any allure.

Moreover, Mormonism teaches that “obedience is the first law of heaven.” Taking on church leaders is viewed as not consistent with being a good Mormon.

In a well thought-out and sensitive editorial, Doree Ashcraft, a believing and participating Mormon, points out an unfortunate effect of a no-pants practice. To read it, please click here.
