Reviewer:
“An important story for all”

We are grateful (and just a little flattered) that reviews from professional critics as well as from readers tend to be positive. Here’s a new reader review, just posted today on Amazon:
✭✭✭✭✭ An important story for all

A wonderful sometimes humorous look at a courageous woman who had the courage to break away from a splinter group arising from Mormonism. Her initiative and common sense are an inspiration to anyone caught in a restrictive group of any kind.

While we’re at it, here is an excerpt from a reader review posted earlier this week (you can read the entire review by clicking here):
✭✭✭✭✭ Entertaining and informative

... A very quick and entertaining read. I like how the author takes full responsibility for her actions and has moved on with her life … I have even seen abuses of all sorts in the name of God, so I have been on sort of a reading spree about religious fundamentalism of all kinds, and this was a very informative addition to my library … I've read so many books on Mormon women who were brainwashed from childhood and forced into the practices of their religion that it was very interesting to read the story of how a mature, intelligent woman took very small steps into a lifestyle like this. It could happen to any of us, and this book illustrates how. I have a fairly twisted sense of humor at times, and loved the style of this book—can't resist anything that makes me both learn AND laugh. My daughter is 18 and I have tried to raise her to be a woman of faith while still keeping her interests, her talents, her individuality, the unique gifts from God that make her what she is, and her COMMON SENSE. I passed this book on to her as a cautionary tale against any “religion” that makes women, even temporarily, lose any of those things.

Unprophetable polygamy

Brady’s
Bunch

For a change, here’s a polygamist family that isn’t religion-based. Mind you, it was. But Mr. and Mrs.es Williams chose to remain together even after leaving their polygamist religious cult. TLC (which, ironically, is also shorthand for the cult Joanne was in) aired a show about them.

“... a very Gilmore Girls-esque
wit to her writing ...”

✭★✭★☆ “Funny and informative”
From Katie: I haven't read many books about polygamy, but I did grow up Mormon and have watched Sister Wives. I found the book interesting, and ended up learning some of the glossed over parts of Mormon history, that I never was taught growing up. She is entertaining with a very Gilmore Girls-esque wit to her writing. She found a way to weave humor into the stranger and somewhat dark times. I would definitely recommend this book, if polygamy is something you are interested in learning about. (September 9, 2013)
✭✭✭✭✭ “Well done!”
From C. Kraemer: Great job. I read it in one sitting. I hope you find peace and happiness, and continue to appreciate and learn from all that life has in store. (September 7, 2013)

Early Mormon Officials on Polygamy

“Nothing to do with polygamy,” eh?

The mainstream Mormon church (properly, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) has released more of what it calls The Joseph Smith Papers. It provides interesting reading, considering it comes from a church which, nowadays, claims to have “nothing to do with polygamy.” Click here to read some excerpts on MormonThink.com, a site that tries (and for the most part succeeds) to present a balanced view as to things Mormon.
