The Price of Prophethood

Who’s that playing Mormon prophet-founder Joseph Smith in the 1940 movie Brigham Young? None other than Vincent Price!

It's not what it looks like. Honest.

A California bookstore paid for their order with a check made out to Steve. Note the memo line, which says, “It's not about the sex.” You have to wonder what anyone in his bank who sees it may assume.

Our thanks to Cindee for this short but thorough review. (Read Cindee’s and other reader reviews on Amazon by clicking here.)
✭★✭★☆ Great Read
This author was very comical on such a serious subject. Great read and very well written. So glad she was able to laugh about such a horrible situation. — Cindee D

How this ex-polygamist gets off
calling herself an “ex-Mormon”

Given that the Mormon church no longer practices polygamy, I am often asked how I can claim to be an ex-Mormon. Simple. I am.

I wasn’t raised in polygamy, but in the mainstream Mormon church. I married my then husband in the Salt Lake Temple. We remained active in the mainstream LDS Church until, five years into our marriage, we were lured into a polygamist cult. Some years later, we left the cult and, some years after that, divorced.

Thus I am an ex-Mormon, ex-Polygamist, ex-wife. In that order, even. — Joanne

“It’s Not About the Sex” My Ass ranks 9th on Amazon's
100 Best Sellers in Mormonism

A little over one year out, “It’s Not About the Sex” My Ass has climbed to Number 9 on Amazaon’s “100 Best Sellers in Mormonism” list, pictured at left. (Considering that The Witness Wore Red is listed twice, think we could claim Number 8?) What an honor! It is thanks to you, readers.

Praise from Down Under
and from parts North

Joanne just received this enthusiastic note from a reader—also named Joanne—from Down Under ...
Loved your book. Read it in 18 hours and that includes sleeping and entertaining my 10 year old who is on holidays. I have been interested in polygamy for years and often wondered how women think so little of themselves to come from a monogamous background and agree to live polygamy. Your book cleared it up a little for me ... Take care from South Australia xx
... and this one from Francis in Pennsylvania:
I just wanted to let you know I absolutely loved your book. You are such a riot!! Some lines were too much -- like the one, "At least I won't have to defend chiropractic again!" ... You are AWESOME!!!

“Nope.”
Mormon church to 130 women requesting
admittance to priesthood meeting

We get the larger point that the women wish to make. On the other hand, have you ever attended or watched on TV any session of LDS General Conference? Most men would gladly yield their seat. Read the Salt Lake Tribune article by clicking here.

Thought provoking piece by Robert Kirby

Brief, excellent piece by “oxy-Mormon”
Robert Kirby will make you think

“The religious beliefs of most people are based as much or more on what we don’t know than what we think we do,” writes Salt Lake Tribune columnist and self-described “oxy-Mormon” Robert Kirby in today’s thought-provoking piece. “In the end we protect ourselves by believing only the truth we can handle and shouting ‘heresy’ at anything we can’t. That’s not faith or God. That’s ego.”

We can’t quite tell if Kirby is defending or challenging faith. Why not read the  brief piece and decide for yourself? Please click here and devour it now.

Ah, brotherly love.

“Not guilty” plea entered

Remember this one? Sorry, but we just can’t leave it alone. Apparently, neither can the defendant, who has just entered a plea of not guilty.

Mind you, there’s nothing funny about assault. Well, usually there’s nothing funny about it.

You can read the Salt Lake Tribune story about the plea by clicking here. To read our original post about the assault, click the photo at left.
